Liquid Iodine

The main function of the thyroid gland is to produce the thyroid hormones T4 and T3. They are necessary for regulating various metabolic processes in the body. Iodine is absolutely necessary for the formation of thyroid hormones. The thyroid hormone T4 consists of four molecules of iodine and one molecule of the amino acid tyrosine.

Iodine deficiency can cause changes in the thyroid gland that can lead to decreased metabolism. Iodine deficiency increases the risk of free radicals affecting the thyroid gland. Iodine deficiency can also lead to goiter, enlargement of the thyroid gland. Iodine deficiency during pregnancy is very serious and can lead to disturbed fetal development of the nervous system.

Iodine contributes to normal production of thyroid hormones and to normal thyroid function but also to normal energy metabolism. Iodine also contributes to the maintenance of normal skin, to normal cognitive function and also to the normal functioning of the nervous system. It is recommended to also take selenium if you take iodine.

Iodine is used to block some harmful substances from accumulating in the thyroid gland, such as perchlorate and fluoride as well as goitrogens in foods which otherwise prevent the absorption of iodine in the thyroid gland. Environmental pollutants can also aggravate iodine deficiency. Chris Kresser, who works with integrative medicine in the United States and who has written extensively on hypothyroidism, believes that 80 % of his hypothyroid patients suffer from iodine deficiency. Dr. David Brownstein stated that almost 95 % of his patients suffer from iodine deficiency

Iosol Iodine is a patented form of water-soluble iodine that dissolves in water and does not risk poisoning or irritating the thyroid gland to the same extent as potassium iodide can if taken in excessive amounts. Potassium iodide does not dissolve in water and potassium iodide can overload the thyroid gland if taken in high doses. Hashimoto's disease (Hashimoto's thyroiditis) which affects the thyroid gland and which usually leads to hypothyroidism was discovered among Japanese people who consumed large amounts of kelp containing potassium iodide.

To produce Iosol iodine, iodine is extracted from kelp and pure iodine crystals other than potassium iodide are obtained. The kelp in Iosol iodine, is Macrocystis pyrifera, i.e. giant kelp. It is harvested in the North Pacific. The iodine is isolated and distilled from the kelp and no kelp residues remain, nor are any chemical contaminants normally present in the water and absorbed by the kelp present in the formula. Iosol iodine is also tested with Geiger meters for radioactivity. Iosol iodine is also teste free of heavy metals such as arsenic, mercury and lead as well as common toxins found in water. The second form of iodine in Iosol iodine, is natural iodine found in rocks located in the Midwestern United States. It also dissolves easily in water. These two forms of iodine are combined in a proprietary manner in a base of vegetable glycerin.

Iosol iodine is probably the safest iodine supplement available on the market and also probably the most effective form of iodine available. Iosol iodine has a concentration of about 4% in a 96% vegetable glycerin solution while Lugol iodine varies from 1–15% concentration of potassium iodide, which means a higher risk of poisoning.
